Holiday Benefit Dance and Auction
7-10 pm
PICKLEWEED COMMUNITY CENTER
50 Oak Street, San Rafael
The Holiday Benefit Dance is always a highlight of our year at The Moving Center School. Yes, the name is a little ambiguous — it is a dance / social event sponsored by the school to celebrate our community and to raise money to benefit others. We dance, talk, eat, donate, and bid on auction items provided by talented, generous members of our community.
New this year: an expanded auction, incredible live drumming and music with Tandamanzi (if you’ve ever danced with them, you know they’re not to be missed), and twice the space for all this spirit.
Last year we raised over $12,000 in 3 hours! One hundred percent of funds raised are donated internationally, locally, and to individuals in our community. This year we will send our spirit and dollars to:
- Support the Lost Boys and Lost Girls of Darfur who have been orphaned and displaced by years of violent conflict
- Glide Memorial Church: our 15th year supporting Glide, providing thousands of meals and places of shelter every day
- Dance Without Borders: Lucie Nerot’s second year bringing the 5Rhythms to teenagers in remote villages in Cambodia.
- Several individuals in our own movement community who are facing life-threatening illness and overwhelming medical bills.
CALL FOR SILENT (and live!) AUCTION ITEMS
If you would like to submit artwork, craftwork, or services for inclusion in this year’s auction, please click here to download the submission form, complete it and follow the simple instructions. Jean-Marie Murphy has generously agreed to coordinate the details and she will get back to you. Please note: apply early! There are a limited number of auction items that we can include in the program.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
It takes many hands to make this event happen. If you would like to be part of the crew that pulls this whole thing together, please contact our Work Study Coordinator, Catherine McConkie. Make sure you include your name, phone number, and interest from the following areas:
- Set-Up
- Food
- Clean-Up
- Auction
- General Support (front desk, traffic flow, etc.)
And most of all, put the date on your calendar. It is always a joyful night for our community.
